National Gallery Prague
A brand new website for the nation’s largest gallery
The new National Gallery Prague website is a stream of endless art inspiration with a simplified, yet needs-driven navigation allowing for a more focused user experience.
The challenge
The user experience on the NGP website was outdated, to put it mildly. So we had to carry out a radical modernization. To help users navigate the website faster, a complete overhaul of the information architecture and the creation of a new content management system (CMS) was necessary. Thanks to the new system, the gallery administrator can easily check the content, which can then be embedded in templates and modules designed by us.
The solution
We rebuilt the website on completely new foundations. The first step was to redesign the information architecture and to embed it into a navigation system built on three pillars. That is why the new CMS was created, which allowed us to gain control and more easily manage upcoming events, exhibitions, etc. This has also improved the user experience. The visually appealing homepage inspires, provides information and helps the user discover the most interesting works of art.

The new items in the menu point to three main reasons why people visit the NGP:

EXHIBITIONS AND EVENTS
includes ongoing and upcoming exhibitions and other activities

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
lectures and discussions, creative workshops, etc.

COLOUR ACCOMPANIES ART
To make each of the exhibitions unique in some way, we have created an editable colour palette, with which the administrator can complement the individual works of art.

IMMERSIVE TRANSITIONS
Leaving the homepage is accompanied by transitions for effect and a change in the layout of the visual content. One's attention shifts from the page with the work of art to more informative content full of text. In the exhibition section, the NGP logo serves an unusual function. It shows the visitor an interesting cut-out of a work of art, exhibition or exposition.
CLEAR OVERVIEW OF EXHIBITIONS AND EVENTS
We have come up with a smart filter that shows the visitor the most popular exhibitions and events. These can then be further filtered by time and place. We have designed an asymmetric event feed to best display the works of art.

SIMPLE CONTENT MANAGEMENT
The entire site is editable through a content management system that allows administrators from the gallery's side to easily manage and upload new content. For easy content management, we have designed several design modules that can be easily assembled to create new pages.

ART AT A SINGLE TOUCH
The navigation on the home page of the mobile version is similar to a feed on social networks - it becomes a stream of artistic inspiration for the user. The main goal was to stimulate interest in new exhibitions while leaving exhaustive information aside in hidden navigation.
